Ant, 1797
Type: Schooner ; Armament 8
Taken : 1797 ; Disposal date or year : 1815
Notes:

31 May 1799 employed as tender to the Royal William. In company with the tender Advice captured the Rosalio and Betty.

20 Nov 1799, Portsmouth, arrived from a cruise. On Sunday, off Brighton, rescued 2 colliers which were being boarded by a French privateer, which was chased into Cherburgh.

7 Feb 1800, Portsmouth, arrived the Ant schooner, Lt. Alt, from a cruise.

Court of King's Bench, 17 Feb 1800. The King V. Fraser and Shaw. This was a prosecution brought by direction of the Board of Admiralty against the defendants, for forging what is called a Liberty Ticket, in order to protect a sailor, named Maxwell, from being impressed. This ticket was apparently signed by Lieutenant Alt, of the sloop Ant, giving a week's liberty to Maxwell, one of his crew, when in fact Maxwell did not belong to that vessel, but to an Indiaman. In the course of the trial, it appeared that these false certificates being extremely common, this prosecution was highly proper. The case was fully proved, and the defendants found guilty.

12 Apr 1800, Portsmouth, arrived with the Advice, from a cruise.

8 May 1800, Portsmouth, sailed with the Grappler, schooner, on a cruise.

Circa 1 Aug 1800, Lieutenant Alt, of the Royal William, who has for a considerable time commanded the Ant schooner, with great credit to himself, and advantage to the public service, is put on half pay; and William Hird, Esq. is appointed to the command of the Ant.

10 Aug 1800, Portsmouth, arrived the Concorde, from St. Martin's, laden with salt, a prize to the Ant.

Circa 1 Oct 1801 prize money due to those officers and men of the Royal William serving on the Ant and Advice when they captured the Rosalio and Betty payable shortly.
