NB I have no knowledge regarding when vessels were built or broken up for the Revenue Service, so these notes may well cover one or more vessels.

28 Aug 1799 capture of the Dutch hulks Drotchterland and Brooderschap, and the ships Helder, Venus, Minerva, and Hector, in the New Diep, in Holland.

Plymouth 21 Jun 1800 arrived from a cruize with the Teats-Hill, smuggling vessel, laden with spirits from Guernsey.

Circa 11 Nov 1800 whilst off Holy Island observed a lugger privateer chase a vessel from Hamburg, and gave chase to the privateer : the vessel from Hamburg is now understood to have arrived at Shields.

24 Feb 1802 prize money resulting from the capture of the Dutch hulks Drotchterland and Brooderschap, and the ships Helder, Venus, Minerva, and Hector due to be paid.

May 1817 chased Tunisian vessels that had captured the Hamburg vessel Ocean. The Ocean was released and the Tunisians were escorted clear of the Channel. The Eagle isn't mentioned by Clowes, but in view of the award of the gratuity mentioned in the following articles one wonders if it shouldn't have been ?

16 May 1817 a special service rendered to foreign merchant vessels by HM sloop Alert, John Smith, Esq Commander, and Eagle Revenue cutter, Lieutenant Pogson, Commander. One wonders if this alludes to the previous article. See www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/17283/pages/1904

4 Sep 1817 proportions of a gratuity presented to Captain Smith for the special service rendered to foreign merchant vessels on 16 May 1817 due to be paid.

Harwich 16 Nov 1819 Has detained and brought in a lugger, with 300 tubs of spirits, tea and tobacco, with 22 men, one of whom was killed and several wounded in the affray.

Portsmouth 6 Mar 1829 Has detained the sloop Eliza, of Poole, suspected of destroying her cargo in the chase.

Portland 6 Mar 1829 Has detained the sloop La Concorde, of Cherbourg with seven men, during which the cargo was thrown overboard. Ten casks recovered and deposited at the Custom-house store at Weymouth.

Portsmouth 16 Mar 1829 Has detained the Venus lugger, a few days from Boulogne, on suspicion of smuggling.

1830 Revenue Vessel - England

Weymouth 20 Nov 1832 Has detained and sent into Portland the Maria, from Genoa to Amsterdam.

Portsmouth 26 Dec 1835 it is reported that on Tuesday the Eagle fell in with a French smuggling cutter, possibly the Eliza, off Portland, and captured a tub boat with 83 tubs of foreign spirits ; however, in the darkness of the night the cutter and crew made their escape.

18 May 1841, captured a French lugger off Weymouth, with 22 tubs of spirits and eight men on board, but 200 tubs had been thrown overboard in the chase.

11 Jun 1841, whilst cruising to the west of Portland gave chase to a French lugger, during which her crew was seen throwing her the cargo overboard, with sink stones. However, a number of tubs of foreign spirits were picked up, and, together with the lugger and crew were taken to the Weymouth Custom-house. Her crew is reputed to have included "French Jack," and Samuel Deare, of Seaton. The Frenchmen were set free, but Deare was remanded.
