10 Aug 1797 the frigate Arethusa, 38, was attacked by the French ship Gaieté, 20, which was taken and acquired for the Royal Navy.

19 Jan 1799, arrived Spithead, from Guernsey.

3 Mar 1799, Portsmouth, sailed with the Unite and a convoy for the West Indies.

6 Mar 1799, Plymouth, passed by the Gaiete and Unite with a convoy for the West Indies.

Circa 1 Nov 1800, Captain E. D. King, of the Gaiete, is appointed to the Leviathan, vice Captain James Carpenter; and Lieutenant Peacocke of that ship to the command of the Gaieté.
