Circa 22 Aug 1914 following the entry of Japan into the war was joined by the Ibuki and Chikuma, and searched the coasts of Java and Sumatra for any signs of the enemy.

13 Sep 1914 arrived Singapore to refuel etc.

15-16 Sep 1914 sailed in search of the Emden, reputedly in the Bay of Bengal.
