29 May 1840 is ordered to he laid down in HM dockyard Woolwich

7 Aug 1840 Woolwich, A large quantity of the timbers to be used in building the Hannibal, a two decker 90-gun ship, of greater dimensions in length than the Trafalgar, are cut ready for use, and placed in piles on the east side of the Boscawen. The Hannibal will be commenced on the stocks where the Trafalgar now is, the moment the latter vessel is launched.

Following the capture of Bomarsund on 16 Aug 1854 some 2255 prisoners were taken, and divided between the allies, the British share being sent to Ledsund, whence they were conducted to the Downs in the Hannibal - see p. 425-> at www.archive.org/details/royalnavyhistory06clow
