Notes:

Portsmouth 25 Oct 1816 Has detained and sent in the sloop Good Intent, of Portsmouth, Searle, master, with a cargo of 115 kegs of brandy and hollands.

Nettlestone 26 Oct 1816 Creeped up 126 kegs of spirits which has been sent to the Custom-house at Southampton.

12 Dec 1816 the boats of HM cutter Algerine, Lieutenant William Price, and Harpy revenue cutter, Lieutenant Hugh Anderson picked up at sea 110 kegs of spirits.

15 Aug 1817 monies due as a result of picking up 110 kegs of spirits at sea will shortly be ready for payment. www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/17278/pages/1792

Portsmouth 29 Sep 1817 Has detained a smuggling sloop off Portland with 300 kegs of spirits on board.

2 Feb 1829 the Harpy's galley chased a smuggler from off Redding Point, in the Sound, but was out-run. On returning to the start of the chase they found over 150 kegs of spirits which had been thrown overboard by the smugglers.

5 Feb 1829 with the Yealm Preventive Boat, the Harpy's galley crept up 120 casks of spirits off the Mewstone.

Plymouth 25 Jan 1829 The cruiser's boat recovered 154 kegs of spirits abandoned by smugglers when discovered in the Sound, and has subsequently crept up a further 120 casks of spirits near the Mewstone, with the Yealm preventive boat, which have been in the water but a few days.

21 Dec 1839 John Grandy, from Harpy, revenue cruiser, appointed Chief Officer of the Coast Guard and to the Cambear Station at Rye

24 Apr 1840 Plymouth, has seized the Arethusa, Cawsand boat, for being out of the limits of her license.

21 Jun 1840 crept up off Bun Island 33½ ankers of foreign spirits.

28 Oct 1840 On Tuesday, captured, near the Eddystone, the Cawsand smuggling boat Five Brothers, and 22 half-ankers of foreign spirits thrown overboard in the chase ; the other part of the cargo was sunk with stones. And on Friday the same boat captured, off the Lizard, the Fox smuggling boat, belonging to Cawsand, with 127 half-ankers of foreign spirits and four men.
