NB This would appear to be one of those vessels which the Naval Chronicle, Vol. 1, circa p. 264, makes reference, but whose hire was terminated a year or so previously.

30 Aug 1795 Hired Armed Cutters Venus and Grace recaptured the Charlotte Victualler.

3 Mar 1796 recaptured the Roxburgh Packet.

19 Jul 1796 Sloops Fairy and Racoon, and Resolution, Flora, Venus (1) , and Grace cutters, captured the Aurora.

27 Aug 1796 salvage arising from the recapture of the Charlotte Victualler and Roxburgh Packet will be paid in the Downs.

1 Jan 1799 CO : B Fearehead ; stationed : Downs and North Sea (N.C.).

24 Jan 1801 prize money arising the capture of the Aurora due for payment on arrival in port.

28 August 1799, Venus, 24, captured by voluntary surrendering (the seamen having refused to fight against the orange flag) to a British squadron under Vice-admiral Mitchell, in the Nieueve Diep, Texel.

18 Mar 1800, Sheerness, the Navy Board have recently issued orders for the Dutch ships of war which are lying in the River Medway to be surveyed and valued. And the following ships, which were taken possession of by the British squadron under the command of Vice-Admiral Mitchell, in the New Diep, in the Texel, are condemned as prizes, viz. Broederschop, of 54 guns ; Hector, of 44 guns ; Venus, of 24 guns ; Minerva, of 24 guns ; and the Drocherland store ship.
