Notes:
23 Jan 1798 Melampus captured the French corvette Volage, which was added to the British navy as a 20-gun ship.
1 Jan 1799, Capt. P. Wodehouse. At Plymouth.
26 Feb 1799, Plymouth, put back : she had sailed for the West Indies with stores, but was found too deeply laden.
7 Mar 1799, Plymouth, sailed for Cork with stores. She takes from thence a convoy for the West Indies.
17 Sep 1799, Plymouth, news from the Volage, off Havannah, 14 Jul last, state that the British squadron, 2 of the line, 4 frigates, and Volage, had taken a number of prizes as they blockaded a Spanish squadron of 4 of the line and 6 frigates in the harbour.
Volage 27 Oct 1799 22 Jul – 27 Oct 1799 the Lowestoffe, Volage, and Swallow captured a privateer of 8 guns, and 3 merchant vessels.
