1869 - 1870
Tuesday November 15th
"At daylight sighted the Breakwater light and we sailed into Plymouth sound in one line. 11.49am dropped our anchor in the sound. We were soon surrounded by boats filled with people."
Wednesday 16th November
"Admiral Houston Stuart inspected the ship and was much pleased. Endymion and Pearl went round to Portsmouth to pay off. Liverpool went up harbour."
"Departed this life of consumption, Henry Summer after a long illness."
"We came up harbour and lashed alongside wharf. Commenced stripping previous to paying off. Liverpool, Phoebe and Satellite close to us."
Tuesday November 29th 1870
"There have been 50 men buried at sea during the cruise. That includes men who have been drowned and killed by falling from aloft, two officers, one Lieutenant, one midshipman."
