The following regulations framed by the Pilot Board of Port Jackson, for the conduct of the pilot establishment of this port, having been approved by the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, are published for general information.
Regulations for the Pilot Establishments at Port Jackson. Appointment of Pilots
1. When an appointment is to be made in the pilot establishment of Port Jackson, the same will be notified in the Government Gazette, and one of the daily papers, and fourteen days' notice will be given for the receipt of applications for the same.
2. Applications for the situation of pilot are to be sent to the Port Master's Office, accompanied by such testimonials as the candidates may consider expedient.
3. Applicants will be required to appear before the Board, to undergo such examination as the Board may deem fit, in order to enable there to report to the Governor whether the candidates are eligible or not, and, if eligible, which is the best qualified.
Duties of Pilots.
4. All vessels are to be boarded in rotation at least one league outside the Inner South Reef when practicable. The bearings of the North Head and Lighthouse being

And the plot, once having taken charge, shall not on any account leave the vessel, until anchored in safety, whether it be his turn or not.
5. If any vessel be allowed to pass to the westward of the south reef without bring boarded by a pilot. Three-fourths pilotage only shall be chargeable in such case. If allowed to pass to the southward of the light ship, then only half pilotage shall be demanded ; and if allowed to pass the shoal opening the light-house to the southward of the beacon, no pilotage shall be payable, unless the services of a pilot be received. when half-pilotage only shall be chargeable. This regulation will be strictly enforced, unless the pilot can show that the deviation therefrom is unavoidable.
6. The bearings and distance of the North Head and the Light-house are always to he taken by the pilot when he first boards, and inserted in the certificate to be signed by the master, or chief officer, in the unavoidable absence of such master.
7. Pilots will be required to have good substantial whale boats, of the ordinary dimensions, which shall always be kept in good working order, subject to the inspection of the Port Master.
8. Pilots will be required to have always in their boats the necessary signals of the port, and will also carry in some conspicuous place a red and white pilot flag. Their boats shall also be numbered on the bow and on the sail.
9. Pilots shall invariably, when employed on duty, have four men at least in their boats.
10. Pilots in charge of inward bound vessels (not being immigrant ships or vessels having gunpowder on board as part of their cargo) shall he at liberty to proceed as near to the wharf or place they intend to discharge as circumstances will permit.
11. Pilots will be appointed to outward bound vessels by the Port Master upon the master's application.
12. Pilots so appointed, are immediately to repair on board, and are not to have the vessel without the written permission of the master.
13. Printed certificates, in the following form, will be supplied by the Port Master to the Pilots, who are always to return them duly attested by the master, or in his unavoidable absence or illness. by the chief officer ; and no pilot will be entitled to claim his pilotage unless on production of such certificate, viz.

14. Pilots. after having taken charge of a vessel, and got her under weigh, for the purpose of taking her to sea, at the request of the master, shall not be allowed to lease the vessel without the master's written permission.
15. Any master of a vessel having cause of complaint against a pilot, must lodge the same in writing, with the Port Master for the consideration of the Pilot Board, within seven days of the neglect complained of, otherwise it will not be entertained.
16. Pilots are required to call the attention of masters of vessels to the nature of the certificate they will be required to sign.
