Cape Of Good Hope Shipping


The barque Symmetry, French, from Adelaide the 23rd December, arrived at the Cape on the 21st February, and sailed again for London on the 22nd March. The brig Palmerston, Affleck, from Port Phillip the 21st December, touched there on the 3rd March, and resumed her voyage for London the following day. The brig Reward, Salmon, from Adelaide the 25th January, bound for Swansea and London, arrived in Table Bay on the 30th March, and sailed again on the 6th April. HMS Hazard, Commander Egerton, and the Wolverine, Commander Hay, sailed from the Cape for England on the 7th March. The ship Wellesley, Toller, sailed for London on the 23rd February. Passengers: Sir Peregrine Maitland, K.C.B., Lady Sarah Maitland, two Masters Maitland two Misses Maitland, two Masters Forster, Captain Maitland, Rev. B. Maitland, and servants. H.M. steamer Thunderbolt had broken up and become a complete wreck. The violent south-east gales having destroyed the little hope that remained of saving that noble vessel ; the officers and crew had proceeded to England in H.M.S. Hazard and Wolverine.
