Runaways from H.M.S. Carysfort ?

About a month ago, Elijah Jenkins and John Fisher Williams, two seamen, were apprehended on a charge of being runaways from H.M.S. Carysfort, and were brought in due course before the Police Court, when one of them stated that he had been left ashore by authority of the commander of that vessel. A constable belonging to the Sydney Police also corroborated the man's statement by saying that when he and the sergeant-at-arms of the Carysfort were searching for some other men belonging to that ship they saw the prisoners, when the sergeant-at arms refused to have anything to do with them, as they were to be left ashore. Notwithstanding this statement, the men were remanded to gaol for fourteen days, at the end of which they were again brought up and again remanded for a second fourteen days Yesterday they were brought up and remanded for a third period of a fortnight.
