A summary of the above lists gives the following results:-In the gross amount of cannon, the British ships have the superiority, by 523. In the Levant we have 117 guns more than the French ; in South America and the river Plate, 71 ; in the West Indies and Gulf of Mexico, the French have the advantage by 123 guns, and likewise in the Pacific and Otaheite, by 45. In China and India we are superior by 278 guns; on the West coast of Africa, 71, and on the East Coast of Africa by 169 ; but this, last inferiority of force will disappear on the arrival there of the extra French cruisers, as stipulated by the new treaty with France for the suppression of the slave trade. The line-of-battle ships composing the experimental squadron, at Portsmouth, mount 182 guns more than the French squadron of Evolutions at Toulon.- London paper
