H.M.S. Inflexible - Ashore during Harbour Trip

23 Jan 1847 H.M.S. Inflexible left on Saturday for New Zealand; His Excellency Sir Charles Fitz Roy, and a large party of ladies and gentlemen were on board as it was generally known that she would take a cruise round the harbour prior to her proceeding to sea. After running down near the heads she returned and ran up Darling Harbour, for the purpose of going round Goat Island ; when she grounded on the sandspit which extends from Goat Island towards Balmain. She remained on it about an hour, when, as the tide was flowing, she got off. Not having received any damage she then proceeded to sea forthwith, after landing her visitors.
