"K CLASS" SPECIAL BOATS. Amidships 4 inch abaft funnel and before after tube. After S.L. or AA. gun platform before mainmast. Garland has cut-away stern.

Special Boats.

3 Thornycroft: Porpoise, 934 tons, Unity, Victor, 954 tons (1913). Designed H.P. 22,500 = 31 kts. All made about 30.3 on trials.

1 Thornycroft : Hardy (1912). 898 tons. H.P. 21;000 = 32 kts.

1 Parsons (hull sub-contracted to Cammell Laird) : Garland (1913). 984 tons. Dimensions as Admiralty boats. Designed H.P. 24,500 = 30 kts. Trials, 31 kts.

Notes to above: Dimensions (except Garland) : 265.25 x 26.5 x 9.25-10.25 feet. All Parsons turbines. 2 screws. Yarrow boilers. Oil: 250-260/200-220 tons. Hardy said to have Diesel engine for cruising speeds; she was so designed, but it is uncertain if this Diesel engine was ever installed or not.

Admiralty Design Boats.

3 Clydebank : Acasta, 996 tons, Achates, 982 tons (1912), Ambuscade, 935 tons (1913). Trials : Acasta 29 kts. Achates :32.3 kts. Ambuscade 30.4 kts. Acasta practically destroyed at Jutland and rebuilt. Brown-Curtis turbines in these boats.

2 Hawthorn Leslie: Christopher, 938 tons, Cockatrice, 951 tons (1912). Trials: Christopher 30.9 kts. Cockatrice 29.7 kts.

2 London and Glasgow: Midge, Owl, 936 tons. (1913) Trials: Midge 32.9 kts. Owl 32.7 kts.

1 Swan Hunter: Spitfire (1913). 935 tons. Trials: 30.3 kts.

Notes to above boats.-Dimensions: 267.5 x 27 x 10.5 feet. Designed H.P. 24,500 = 29 kts. All Parsons turbines, except Clydebank boats. 2 screws. Yarrow boilers. Oil: 260/200 tons.

War Losses.-Ardent, Contest, Sparrowhawk, Shark.

General Notes.-All 1911-12 Programme. Guns: 3-4 inch (1-4 inch on AA. mounting in some boats), 1-2 pdr. pom-pom in nearly all, 1 M.G. Tubes : 2-21 inch single. The single tube between 2nd and 3rd funnels is a distinctive feature of this cass. Complement, 75-77.

"K CLASS" ADMIRALTY BOATS. S.L. or AA. gun platform abaft 3rd funnel, amidships 4 inch between after tubes and mainmast. Forefunnel close to foremast.
