Torpedo Coxswains - Coxswains
At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 8th day of June, 1937.

Present, The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas there was this day read at the Board a Memorial from the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, dated the 3rd day of June, 1937 (N. 4271 / 37) in the words following, viz. :-

Whereas by Section 3 of the Naval and Marine Pay and Pensions Act, 1865, it is enacted inter alia that all pay, pensions or other allowances in the nature thereof payable in respect of services in Your Majesty's Naval or Marine Force to a person being or having been an Officer, Seaman or Marine therein shall be paid in such manner and subject to such restrictions, conditions and provisions as are from time to time directed by. Order in Council:

And whereas by Order in Council of 29th February, 1908 non-substantive pay of 7d. a day was granted to Chief Petty Officers and Petty Officers employed as Torpedo Coxswains:

And whereas Torpedo Coxswains are now employed as Coxswains of Destroyers, the larger type of Submarines, Minesweepers, Patrol Vessels &c.:

And whereas we are of the opinion that the non-substantive pay for this rating should be increased to 1s. a day:

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction payment accordingly.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

His Majesty, having taken the said Memorial into consideration, was pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to approve of what is therein proposed.

And the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are to give the necessary directions herein accordingly.

Establishment of Coxswains for Motor Torpedo Boat or Motor Anti-Submarine Boat
At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 17th day of November, 1939.

Present, The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas there was this day read at the Board .a Memorial from the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, dated the 14th day of November, 1939 (N.11662/39), in the words following, viz.:-

Whereas by Section 3 of the Naval and Marine Pay and Pensions Act, 1865, it is enacted inter alia that all pay, pensions or other allowances in the nature thereof payable in respect of services in Your Majesty's Naval or Marine Force to a person being or having been an Officer, Seaman or Marine therein shall be paid in such manner and subject to such restrictions, conditions and provisions as are from time to time directed by Order in Council:

And whereas we have had under consideration the necessity of employing qualified men to carry out the responsible duties of Coxswains of Motor Torpedo Boats and Motor Anti-Submarine Boats:

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the establishment as from 10th November, 1939, of the non-substantive Rating of Motor Torpedo Boat Coxswain, with pay at the rate of 6d. per diem; the Rating to be open to the Chief Petty Officer or Petty Officer employed as Coxswain in each Motor Torpedo Boat or Motor Anti-Submarine Boat at our discretion as considered necessary:

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
