24 Jan 1856,

With reference that part of the Circular No. 140 of 15 Jun 1854, respecting the pay to which men belonging to revenue cruisers, who may be drafted for Service in the Royal Navy, are entitled, the following increase of pay to "deputed mariners" and "mariners" of revenue cruisers proposed by the Comptroller General of Coast Guard, having been sanctioned by Treasury minute dated 1 July 1854, viz :-

Increase of Pay

deputed mariners from 1s. 9d. to 2s. 3d. a day
mariners from 1s. 6d. to 1s. 11d. a day

My Lords are pleased to make known, for general information, that under the provisions of the act 16th and 17th Victoria, cap. 73, revenue cruisers' men of either of the ships are respectively entitled, from 1 July 1854, to the increase of pay referred to, instead of the pay prescribed in the before-mentioned circular, unless they may hold the ratings of Petty Officers, whose pay and allowances are superior to the pay of revenue cruisers' men, in which case they will be entitled, as at present, to the superior pay &c. of such ratings.
