Pension paid while serving for Loss of Limbs, &c.

Order in Council
10 May 1860

Midshipmen may receive Pension while serving for Loss of Limbs, &c.

Whereas we have had under our consideration the existing Regulations by which pensions are granted to Midshipmen in Your Majesty's Fleet for the loss of limb in action, or for injuries equal to the loss of limb, which Regulations do not admit of the pension awarded to them for these injuries being enjoyed while they are capable of serving in Your Majesty's Fleet; and whereas we are humbly of opinion that it will be for the benefit of Your Majesty's Service that Midshipmen should be permitted to receive pensions for loss of limb, or for injury equal to the loss of a limb, whilst so serving, we humbly request that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by your Order in Council to grant us the necessary authority for the payment of such pensions to Midshipmen, and for placing them in this respect on the same footing as Commissioned Officers.
